This option shows the properties of a vortex flow control and allows you to modify them.
On the Manhole Properties window, click the Add... flow control button and choose a vortex control like Hydro-Brake® Optimum, QBrake or StormBrake™, or select a vortex flow control from the flow control list and click the Edit... button to show the following vortex properties window.
Vortex Type
Choosing one of the vortex flow control types from this drop down list will swap the current vortex control to the newly selected type. In doing so, the performance curve and results information will automatically update.
Design Head
Enter the depth of water (head) above the invert of the flow control that you wish to optimise this vortex control for.
Design Flow
Enter the maximum discharge rate that is likely to flow through this vortex flow control.
Hydro-Brake® Optimum specific values
The following two options are only enabled when a Hydro-Brake® Optimum is selected:
Sump Available
Tick this option if there is room for a sump below the Hydro-Brake® Optimum flow control.
Objective
Choose the method to optimise the hydraulic characteristic curve (response curve)
Minimise storage requirements: Passes forwards as much flow as possible early in a storm event, in order to minimise upstream storage.
Minimise blockage risk: Makes the inlet and outlet openings as large as possible.
Future proof: Adds an adjustable inlet, set to its mid-point for maximum flexibility for adjusting design flows post installation.
Linear discharge profile: Generates a discharge rate as close as possible to linear, providing similar hydraulic performance as an orifice place, but with internal clearances approximately 2-4 times larger.
Results
After the vortex flow control has automatically recalculated itself, the following results will be updated:
Reference: Unique identifier/model number that the manufacturer might refer to when constructing this flow control.
Body Width: Physical Width/Span of flow control device. If 0.0, then this value is not provided by the manufacturers calculations.
Body Depth: Physical Depth/Thickness away from the manhole side wall of flow control device. If 0.0, then this value is not provided by the manufacturers calculations.
Min Outlet Diameter: Minimum outlet/pipe diameter that can be used with the current vortex design.
Flush Flow Head: Head of fluid at the point where the vortex flow control transforms from standard flow to vortex flow.
Flush Flow: Flow rate of fluid at the point where the vortex flow control transforms from standard flow to vortex flow.
Kickback Head: Head of fluid at the point where the vortex flow control produces a steady vortex.
Kickback Flow: Flow rate of fluid at the point where the vortex flow control produces a steady vortex.
Min Manhole Diameter: Minimum manhole diameter that can be used with this flow control design.
Min Sump: Minimum required sump beneath this flow control for installation and usage. Please check with manufacturer for final install sump requirements.
Performance Curve Preview
This window shows the depth to flow performance curve of the designed flow control. You can right click over this preview and choose Copy Points to Clipboard if you would like to export the performance curve depth/flow points to a spreadsheet, CSV or another system.
