The Microplot Network License Server allows you to use your product's LAN or WAN licenses on any of the computers on your network. If you currently use standalone licenses, which are locked to a specific computer, you may like to consider upgrading to network licenses. Please contact your reseller for advice.

A LAN License can be used by any end-user on your local area network (at one office building). A WAN License can be used by any end-user on your wide area network (between multiple office locations, or for home and office usage).

Choose a Computer to be the Server

When installing the Microplot Network License Server you should pick a computer on your network that will be running all the time. This computer will then be the License Server. The License server computer will need to be running whenever you want to use the product licenses on any of your other computers.

The License Server computer can be any machine running Microsoft Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, Windows 11 or Windows Server. This can be either 32 bit Windows or 64 bit Windows.

Note: You must be logged on as a user with Administrator rights on the computer in order to install the Microplot Network License Server.

Follow this step-by-step guide to install the Microplot Network License Server:

Install the Network License Server

Run the set-up program as administrator. To do this:

You may be prompted for confirmation to run the installer. Click Yes:

Important: Please make a note of the install folder location, because this is where you'll need to put the license configuration file in order to activate the licenses.

Note: If you do not get the folder selection option then you already have the License Server installed. The installer will upgrade it. If you need to change the install folder, then first uninstall the License server (Start->Control Panel->Programs & Features) before you run the installer.

Click the Install button:

Finally, click the Finish button:

Verify the Server is Running

There are a few ways you can verify the network license server is now running:

Firewalls and Security

Microplot Network License Server needs to be able to receive connections from computers on your local network, and accordingly, the installer creates an appropriate access rule for the Windows Firewall. If you are using no other security products then you're ready to continue.

However, if you are using another security product (for example, a third-party firewall or anti-virus system) then you may need to configure it. You only need to do this if you've verified in the Windows Task Manager that the Microplot Network License Server is running, but you can't connect to it using Site3D from another local computer. In this case, you may need to refer to the documentation which came with your security product to permit incoming connections on port 7017 to the Microplot Network License Server.

Server Registration

In order to activate network licenses for Site3D, you will need to register your Network License Server and obtain a network license configuration file.

To do this you need to provide your reseller with the serial number generated by the Microplot Network License Server. You can see the serial number in one of two ways:

License Configuration File

After you have registered your license server, your reseller can provide you with a license configuration file to activate your purchased network licenses.

Simply save the license configuration file, config.lic, into the install folder.

Note: The default install folder is C:\Program Files\Microplot Network License Server on a 32 bit Windows computer, and C:\Program Files (x86)\Microplot Network License Server on a 64 bit Windows computer.

The running Microplot Network License Server will automatically detect the file, and start serving the licenses for usage on your local network. Note: It may take up to 15 minutes for the new licenses to become active.

You should now be able to utilise the network licenses with Site3D running on computers on your local network. See the help page on Network Licenses for further information.

Replacement License Configuration Files

When you renew your support and maintenance for Site3D each year, you may be provided with a replacement config.lic file for that new support period.

To apply the new config.lic file, simply save it into the install folder to replace the previous one.

The running Microplot Network License Server will automatically detect the new file, and start serving the licenses for usage on your local network. Note: It may take up to 15 minutes for the new licenses to become active.
